Christmas shopping in Camden Town

Are you as excited as I am this Christmas? London packs a lot of fun and frolic on the period leading up to Christmas break. It should be a lot of fun meeting friends and buying presents for the Christmas tree.
MyMzone, Christmas shopping, unique, handmade, Camden Town, Camden Market, Boxing shopping, Rudolph and friends
Rudolph and friends

This year, I have decided to support small businesses by going online to MyMzone and purchasing unique and handmade products from Traditional markets in London like Camden Town.

The reason is this: TFL has announced that the TFL employees are going on a strike for 60 hours starting Dec 24 8PM until Dec 26. This means that traveling in London will be cumbersome during Christmas and Boxing day holidays.

For this reason, I will do my purchases online this Christmas on MyMzone! =)

MyMzone adventurer

I came across this really promising cool little character called Matt Brady at MyMzone's blog today. Thought it would be nice to share the story with everyone. MyMzone is a community based project working with local merchants in Camden Town, London and have a blog all about Camden Town, Camden Market and the small businesses based in Camden Town. Anyway, this is the URL: https://mymzone.com/blog/meet-matt-3/

Two women talking in heaven

1st woman: Hi! My name is Wanda.
2nd woman: Hi! I'm Sylvia. How'd you die?
1st woman: I froze to death.
2nd woman: How horrible!
1st woman: It wasn't so bad. After I quit shaking from the cold, I began to get warm & sleepy, and finally died a peaceful death. What about you?
2nd woman: I died of a massive heart attack. I suspected that my husband was cheating, so I came home early to catch him in the act.

But instead, I found him all by himself in the den watching TV.

Tough interview question - Search Company

How to answer tough interview questions, how to drive traffic to your blog, search company interview
How to answer tough interview questions intelligently
I was once interviewed for a job at a well-known search company. One of the five people who interviewed me asked a question that resulted in an hour-long discussion:

"Explain how you would develop a frequency-sorted list of the ten thousand most-used words in the English language."

Now, ask yourself: How will you go about answering this question?

My initial response was to assail the assumptions underlying the problem. Language is a fluid thing, I argued. It changes in real time. Vocabulary and usage patterns shift day-to-day. To develop a list of words and their frequencies means taking a snapshot of a moving target. Whatever snapshot you take today isn't going to look like the snapshot you take tomorrow -- or even five minutes from now.

Making summer vacation plans?

End of days, May 21, 2011, Harold Camping, William Miller, Biblical phrases twisted, End of day predictios, 153 days from May
The question is -- Did he come; is he invisible?
Ok -- how many of you know about Harold Camping's Doomsday prediction that on May 21, 2011, the world will end? Does he remind you of William Miller, a farmer and self-taught biblical scholar from NY who pinned the end of days on 1874? How many of you know that the end of days dates have already moved 5 times? From 1874 to 1914 and then to 1925, 1941 and 1975?

Some reasons why Harold Camping is wrong:
1. He has done this before and was wrong
2. His Calculations are Un-biblical
3. His Biblical understanding is completely off
4. He denies that Jesus is God

5. Camping does not preach the Gospel

Statement from Osama Bin Laden's family

"I, Omar Ossama Binladin and my brothers the lawful children and heirs of the Ossama Binladin (OBL) have noted wide coverage of the news of the death of our father, but we are not convinced on the available evidence in the absence of dead body, photographs, and video evidence that our natural father is dead. Therefore, with this press statement, we seek such conclusive evidence to believe the stories published in relation to 2 May 2011 operation Geronimo as declared by the President of United States Barrack Hussein Obama in his speech that he authorized the said operation and killing of OBL and later confirmed his death.

If OBL has been killed in that operation as President of United States has claimed then we are just in questioning as per media reports that why an unarmed man was not arrested and tried in a court of law so that truth is revealed to the people of the world. If he has been summarily executed then, we question the propriety of such assassination where not only international law has been blatantly violated but USA has set a very different example whereby right to have a fair trial, and presumption of innocence until proven guilty by a court of law has been sacrificed on which western society is built and is standing when a trial of OBL was possible for any wrongdoing as that of Iraqi President Sadam Hussein and Serbian President Slobodan Miloševic'. We maintain that arbitrary killing is not a solution to political problems and crime's adjudication as Justice must be seen to be done.

It is also unworthy of the special forces to shoot unarmed female family members of Binladen killing a female and that of one of his son.

Jacob Lusk - God bless the child

Jacob Lusk, God bless the child, American idol 2011, hollywood week auditions, Randy Jackson, Jennifer Lopez, Steven Tyler, Gospel singer on American idol
Jacob Lusk
Jacob Lusk is a college drop out with a dream. He is a gospel singer with strong faith in the god above. It really shows in his rendition of 'God Bless the Child'. Too bad he was voted off the show last week as America chose to keep Lauren Alaina, Scotty McCreery, Haley Reinhart and James Durbin.

Funny thing: Watch Randy Jackson's reaction at the end along with Steven Tyler and Jennifer Lopez

Growing wealth divide in Stockholm

According to new figures from Statistics Sweden (SCB) and compiled at the request of Sveriges Radio (SR); some key facts:
1) Of Sweden's 100 wealthiest areas, 96 are located in Stockholm County.
2) 21 of the 100 poorest areas are also located in and around the Swedish capital.
3) The income difference between the poorest and wealthiest areas has increased.
4) In the 100 postal codes where people earned the most in 2009, monthly incomes averaged 22,000 ($3,500) kronor more than they were ten years ago. Monthly incomes only increased by an average of 2,000 kronor in Sweden's 100 poorest areas during the same time period.

Is being gay a sin?

Are you ready to get a load of this?
Kalla Fakta, Frälsnings armén, Frälsningsarmén, Being gay is a sin, Håll grytan kokande, TV4, Swedish Salvation Army
Swedish Salvation Army poster: Keep the pot boiling
An undercover journalist from Swedish TV4’s Kalla Fakta (‘Cold Facts’) investigative news programme used a hidden camera to record his conversation with a leader from one of the country’s Salvation Army (Frälsningsarmén) chapters. “The Salvation Army’s basic position is that homosexual sex is a sin. A man shouldn’t sleep with a man in the way he sleeps with a woman,” the chapter leader told the TV4 reporter in a programme broadcast on May 8, Sunday evening.

Another chapter leader asked God to help free the reporter from his homosexuality.

In an email to TV4, Salvation Army representatives said the exchange was likely due to “a few personal views from a few chapter leaders”.
In subsequent email messages, Kalla Fakta pressed the Salvation Army to explain why the Junior Soldier’s Promise lesson book includes passages saying that children and young people should learn that homosexuality is wrong.

The Salvation Army responded that the material is “outdated in its entirety and is in the process of being reviewed and updated”.
According to Kalla Fakta, the Salvation Army developed an ethics document in 1996 which established that people who live as homosexuals can’t be soldiers in the Salvation Army.

The document was changed this year and no longer includes the text about homosexuality.

Microsoft buys Skype for $8.5 Bn

Surprised? Well, I sure am.
$8.5Bn, Bing, free data link calls, Internet telephony, Lync, Microsoft buys Skype, Microsoft Online services, Microsoft Telecommunications, Skype, who owns Skype now
Courtesy: David Loh/Reuters
Skype has been recording losses of about $686 M in the last year and has not been profitable for a few years now. Skype is seen as a threat by all mobile operators as it is a way to call across countries through data link for free. Now, with the new development, I am not so sure the "Skype freedom" is going to continue.

Microsoft's online service has only loss making history with Lync and Bing being recorded as losses. Bing is in loss since 2005. I am not sure what Microsoft has been thinking ever since they offered to buy Yahoo for $48Bn in 2007. Some screws are coming off, but this move of acquiring Skype along with their losses beats me. Sure, Microsoft Telecommunications now have a new internet telephony tool to their armory -- but did they need it?

Has Skype ever recorded a profitable year? Yes - before 2005. Is that enough reason to buy Skype? Only Microsoft knows. So, who owns Skype now? Microsoft Online Services.
Why Microsoft online services, why?

BodyPopping Michael Moral

BGT 2011, Bodypopping, Britain's Got Talent 2011, French dancer in Britain's got talent, Haspop, Michael Moral, Razi gogonea
When I saw Haspop, I thought he was good --- and in comes Razi Gogonea. Now, Michael Moral -- he is definitely one of the best I've ever seen. Now, Razi Gogonea has got a stiffer challenge in the competition.

21-year-old dance teacher Michael watches Britain's Got Talent on YouTube in his home country of France and has always dreamed of having the opportunity of performing for the Royal Family. Making the long trip to Birmingham from the south of France - Michael has come, along with his translator, to share his incredible dancing moves with the judges. After just a few seconds of bumps and grinds, it's clear that Michael knows how to move! Will his journey to Britain, in the hopes that he'll be able to perform his fantastic talent at the Royal Variety, be dashed or will his cool moves win over the British crowd?

But will he be accepted by the public? Will Britons vote for a French guy for the winner of Britain's Got Talent? Either way, this is proof that France has got talent! =)

FarmVille for real!

National Trust's Wimpole Home Farm seeks online farmers
A National Trust farm is to be run by online subscribers voting on which crops to grow and livestock to rear. For a £30 annual fee, 10,000 farm followers will help manage Wimpole Home Farm, in Cambridgeshire. The National Trust says its MyFarm project aims to reconnect people with where their food comes from.

It was partly inspired by the online Facebook game Farmville and follows the example of Ebbsfleet Football Club which is run on a similar basis. Decisions about the running of the team in Kent has been in the hands of MyFootballClub subscribers since 2008.

Apple tracking iPhone users?

Do you think Apple is watching you? Do you worry when you see this message?

Apple's iPhone and iPad 3G appeared to collect information about their users' location, Apple, iPhone 3G, iPad 3G, collecting data, user location, google maps, maps on iPhone
Giving up your location
If you answer is 'YES', read on. If your answer is NO, you might want to read on ^.^

Well, Apple has denied that it is tracking iPhone users. In fact Apple claims to NOT track iPhone users. However, much to the dismay of a LOT of 'normal' users, a few security researchers claimed to have found a hidden file on the devices containing a record of everywhere they had been. Some users managed to extract the data and plot it on maps.

It looked like this:

Susan Boyle Vs Michael Collings

Susan Boyle vs Michael Collings, Michael Collings, Susan Boyle, Glastonbury, MetroTV, fast car, Britain's Got Talent
Susan Boyle Vs Michael Collings
The author Daniella Graham from MetroTV has classified this 'head to head' per say in three categories:
1) Style
2) Likelihood of playing Glastonbury
3) Long term career prospects.
She feels that while Susan has Michael beat on Style after her style makeover, Michael has Susan beat on possibilities on playing on Glastonbury. Although Susan has sold over 9M copies of her album 'I dreamed a dream', she has primarily appealed to the mature crowds -- moms -- to be exact. Michael Collings on the other hand has prospects of appealing to a younger crowd with his very unique voice.

As further evidence that Susan boyle (SuBo) is here to stay, the singer now has her own waxwork at Madame Tussaud's -- -that is amazing. Fast Car has already shot back up the iTunes chart on the back of Michael's popularity, and Collings is being named as a favourite to win the show. But with so many male singers already on the pop scene, his long-term career prospects are uncertain.

Winner: Susan Boyle has proved she has sticking power – but we wouldn't bet against Michael enjoying a similar level of success

Overall Winner: It's close, but Susan Boyle wins 2-1.

Secure Facebook Browsing

Here is something not a LOT of you may not have noticed. Even if you did notice, you may not have thought it was important. So, this is the deal.

Facebook has changed the possibilities of secure browsing and perhaps "forgot" to let us know. Take a look at your URL ... You probably do not have a secure session and can be hacked. (A secure session will have a little blue bar on the left hand side with the words "Facebook.com" captured inside it).

What you can do
1) Go to Account
2) Click on Account Settings
Facebook account settings, Secure Facebook browsing, How to make Facebook more secure
Where to change Facebook account settings

3) Look for Account Security - click Change.
4) Check the box (Safe Browsing) -  click Save. (FB had accounts in non-secure mode, but  not anymore!)

How secure Facebook URL should look like

Tracy Chapman (Michael Collings BGT2011) fast car lyrics

19-year-old IT Engineer Michael Collings certainly has an entertaining story, and - with an interesting choice of clothes - the audience and judges seem to have him already sussed. That is, of course, until he starts to perform! How much do you love Michael Collings' rendition of Tracy Chapman's original song- fast car? I love the lyrics and it has so much soul to it. A LOT of folks have searched on youTube after listening to Michael Collings' version of the song.

Anyway, these are the lyrics in case you were looking for them.

Britain's got talent 2011 application form

Do you know how to audition or sign up for Britain's Got Talent 2011? Well, it is simple -- show up where there is an audition and you can fill the application form there. All details can be found on ITV website. URL: itv.com/talent.

There is no application form on any websites, so if you see a link telling you about signing up for Britain's Got Talent (BGT)2012, stay away from it. If you do not want to be spamBombed, that is.

Oh and how many of you like it without Simon Cowell? Just curious. I quite like Michael Mcintyre and David Hasselhoff and Amanda Holden but it is just not the same without Piers Morgan and Simon Cowell

Who am I?

There are certain days when I sit and reflect on what I've become and who I really am. I had a very stimulating discussion with a few Danish students about the subject of Hinduism and how living in a pluralistic society like London has affected my way of thinking. Their probing questions got me thinking. A LOT. In the end, the realization came about quicker than expected.

Cognitive Reasoning

Hokay, This is a cognitive reasoning skills test. This set of Cognitive reasoning questions is all about being spontaneous. Just say the first thing that pops into your mind.

Who likes Math?
You do not ever need to write or remember the answers, just do it using your mind. You'll be surprised.

Bianca Kajlich

A lot of TV fans know Bianca Kajlich (pronounced Biana Ky-lick) through the popular CBS TV show "Rules of Engagement".

Patrick Warburton, Megyn Price, Oliver Hudson, Bianca Kajlich, David Spade, Rules of Engagement, CBS
Rules of Engagement
What a lot of people do not know about this Italian-American actress is that she is Ranked #63 on the Maxim magazine Hot 100 of 2007 list. She is 34 and some might say she is past her prime but I think she has really come to her own ever since she joined Rules of Engagement with David Spade. With mediocre hits like "Bring it on" and forgettable movies like "Halloween Resurrection" and "10 things I hate about you", Bianca Maria Kajlich was indeed going largely unnoticed.

One might argue that with Patrick Warburton, Megyn Price and Oliver Hudson in the fray (not to mention David Spade and his protege Adhir Kalyan) she might be over shadowed. Through Jennifer (I still do not know her last name -- it is not Lopez or Ramires lol), she has justified why she is on the Top 100 Hot women.

Bianca, my heart goes out to you. I hope you find success and that you are able to come out of the shadows of good actors. I hope you reach wherever you aspire to reach.

Cultural Globalisation

Michael Porter theorizes that culture helps to explain why different individuals perceive things in their own way and perform actions differently from other groups. For example, the extent to which people accept authority structures (that people accept that it is OK for some to make decisions and others to follow) is marked by Geert Hofstede's Power Distance Index. The Index says that countries like India, Malaysia, China, Mexico, Japan etc has a higher PDI in relation to USA, UK and Sweden where authority does not mean as much.

Tolerance of Ambiguity or the Uncertainty Avoidance index states that some cultures desire a certain level of certainty when they come to doing business and taking decisions. The index suggests that India, Malaysia, UK and Sweden has a lower UAI in comparison to Greece, Portugal, Germany and Japan who welcome rules and regualtions.

The extent to which people's actions are determined with reference to their own benefit or benefit to the community is called Individualism/Collectivism. The index indicates that India,Greece, Japan etc exhibit collectivist behavior as opposed to Sweden, UK, Germany, France and USA who are individualist societies.
When there is a dependency on materialistic outcome, the index refers to Masculinity/Femininity. For example, Sweden, Portugal and France score low on masculinity because they are not as materialistic as UK, USA, Japan and India.

Have you noticed that you are only seeing updates in your newsfeed from the same people lately? Have you also noticed that when you post things like status messages, photos and links, the same circle of people are commenting and everyone else seems to be ignoring you?

Don't worry, everyone still loves you and nobody has intentionally blocked you. The problem is that a large chunk of your friend/fan list can't see anything you post and here's why:

SEO - Deal or NO Deal?

There are several firms and companies who claim to improve your Google page ranking over night. They claim to have your page on the first page within days and will submit your pages to a thousand search engines.

Well, first things, first.
1) There aren't 1000 search engines.
2) Watch where they put your page -- on search results or on advertisement columns
3) You should show the same skepticism that you show to "burn fat over night" pills.
4) There is no such thing as priority submission on Google. The only way to submit is "SubmitURL" feature.

Irish Post Goof-up

So, this is what happened.
A friend of mine and I was drinking beer at a local pub and I happened to see Irish Post and Irish Times newspapers. It was March 23, 2011 according to me, my friend Louise and Irish Times.

Irish Post disagreed.
The date on that day's(March 23) daily was March 26, 2011.
Irish Post - Date Goofup
So, either they invented time travel or someone else did.
Or, it was a goof-up.

You be the judge!

UK Post-study work (PSW) visa - Final verdict

So, yes -- the final verdict is out. Students cannot apply for post-study work visa after April 2012. Normally, current master students should be fine as they would apply before that date.

Over the last few posts we have been following the developments from the “no change” to today’s shock announcement. The opportunity to gain real work experience in the UK after graduation has been a major incentive for many students I have spoken to about their decision to study in the UK. The scrapping of PSW has changed everything.

The announcement indicates that another aspect of the international student experience, the ability to work part-time, will remain although there will be restrictions on non-course related placements. This at least means that students can continue to develop their employability whilst in the UK and aim to compete with EU students for graduate jobs (sponsored) afterward.

According to the Summary document, the Post Study Work visa route will close to applicants from April 2012. There will be no restriction on those who apply under Tier 2 and the Government has announced its intention to support entrepreneurs.

Perigee Moon - Biggest moon in 20 years

The date is March 19, 2011.

If the moon looks a little bit bigger and brighter on that weekend, there is an awesome reason for that. March 19, 2011 Saturday's full moon will be a super "Perigee moon," the biggest the moon will ever look in almost 20 years. This rare celestial event happens when the moon reaches the closest possible point of its orbit around the earth about 212,000 miles away. NASA says the moon will appear 14 percent larger and 30 percent brighter than usual.

Catch it while you can. If you miss it, you'll have to wait until 2029 to see it again.

UK PSW Update - relief to students?

Andrew Humphrey, the immigration adviser who spoke recently at International Futures, has confirmed that the proposed scrapping of the Post-Study Work visas will not be taking place.

The announcement came on March 16, 2011 from the UK Borders Agency. In their Statement of Changes, page 57 , it confirms at para 7.9

"No changes, other than those set out in 7.16 and 7.17 below, are being made to the Tier 1 (Post-Study Work) category, which caters for international graduates who have studied in the UK and wish to work following their graduation."

This will be a major relief to many students who were concerned they would not be able to apply to work in the UK after graduating. It also means that international students remain attractive to employers. Please continue to monitor the UKCISA website for any future changes to the immigration rules that may affect student visa holders and applications for Tier 1 Post Study Work.  See www.ukcisa.org.uk.

Google multiple sign-in

So, Google has introduced a feature using which you can sign in with two different google accounts on the same browser. Imagine not having to install another browser just because you need to login to work email which is managed by google apps' email solution! Well, to be honest, I would recommend having more than one browser in your system; but if you cannot be bothered, you do not need to logout of your account; pop in to another account, take a quick look and then come back to your main account again.

This is how you do it.

How to determine the technology used to build a website?

Ever seen an awesome website but you have been left to wonder and more often than not guess the technology using which the website is built? Sometimes, the technology being used becomes apparent by looking at the URLs. However, the programming language and technology can be hidden by URL re-writing. The HTTP response headers, cookies, style-sheets and source comments may also give clues as in to which technology is being used.

Some nice tools for finding out the technology behind: (not an exhaustive list)
    * BuiltWith
    * DomainTools
    * NetCraft

Firefox addons:
    * Domain Details - IP, country and webserver details
    * Library Detector - Javascript libraries in use

If you wish to reverse engineer a website and perhaps even replicate some of the good features that they have used, go ahead, find out how it is built first. One question though -- would you use jQuery? =)

Oxymoron - A review

An oxymoron is usually defined as  "A phrase in which two words are contradictory meaning"  are brought together, for example;

1)  Clearly misunderstood
2) Exact Estimate
3) Small Crowd
4) Act Naturally
5) Found Missing
6) Fully Empty
7) Pretty ugly
8) Seriously funny
9) Only choice
10) Original copies
11)Virtual reality
12)Dark light

And, the best one ---

13) Happily Married
=)

Is your computer a male or a female?

To crack the myth -- do this!

1. Open Notepad
2. Type the following line in notepad:
CreateObject("SAPI.SpVoice").Speak"I love You"
3. Save file as computer_gender.vbs
4. Run the file - If you hear a male voice, it's a boy. If you hear a female voice, it's a girl! ;)

So, is it a boy or a girl? =)

End of Facebook on March 15th? Hoax!

Heard a story that Facebook is going to end on March 15th? You should take it with a pinch of salt.

A story is spreading like wildfire across Facebook this weekend, claiming that the world's most popular social network is closing on March 15th.

The reason? CEO Mark Zuckerberg claims that "managing [Facebook] has ruined my life. I need to put an end to all the madness."

End of Facebook on March 15th?

PALO ALTO, CA –Mark Zuckerberg announced that Facebook will be shut down in March. Managing the site has become too stressful.

“Facebook has gotten out of control,” said Zuckerberg in a press conference outside his Palo Alto office, “and the stress of managing this company has ruined my life. I need to put an end to all the madness.”

Zuckerberg went on to explain that starting March 15th, users will no longer be able to access their Facebook accounts.

“After March 15th the whole website shuts down,” said Avrat Humarthi, Vice President of Technical Affairs at Facebook. “So if you ever want to see your pictures again, I recommend you take them off the internet. You won’t be able to get them back after Facebook goes out of business.”

An idea can change your life!

Somebody once said: "An idea can change your life".
Sure. I agree.
Ravi Jay, An idea can change your life, A lady can change your idea
An idea can change your life!
Now, does this  "A lady can change your idea" sound more accurate?

Instant Personalization on FaceBook

I saw this today on a friend´s status message

------------------------Excerpt------------------------
As of today, a new privacy setting called "Instant Personalization" that shares data with non-Facebook websites and it is automatically set to "Enable."
Go to Account>Privacy Settings>Applications and Websites>Instant Personalization>
At bottom of page Edit Settings, and un-check "Enable".

Just so you know, if your friends don't do this, they will be sharing information about you.
------------------------Excerpt------------------------

I checked my FB privacy settings and it was not automatically enabled.
So, this goes out to all the people who will panic --- I suspect there is anything to panic. Enable it if you are cool about Instant Personalization. Otherwise, do nothing!

My salary -- It is awesome. NOT!

Would you lie about your salary when asked for a figure during an interview? If your answer is YES, you are probably one of 23% candidates out there who go out on a limb and lie hoping that your new employer would never find out. The trouble is that your new employer would probably call your references and check it out anyway. So, does lying help?

If your answer is NO, you probably have not thought this through. Think again.

Lyrics to Taio cruz's Dynamite: Enjoy!

I came to dance, dance, dance, dance
I hit the floor 'Cause that's my, plans, plans, plans, plans
I'm wearing all my favourite Brands, brands, brands, brands
Give me space for both my hands, hands, hands, hands
You ... you

Cause it goes on and on and on
And it goes on and on and on

I throw my hands up in the air sometimes
Saying AYO...
Gotta let go...
I wanna celebrate and live my life
Saying AYO...
Baby, let's go...

'Cause we gon' rock this club
We gon' go all night
We gon' light it up
Like it's dynamite
Cause I told you once
Now I told you twice
We gon' light it up
Like it's dynamite!

Women - explained

This is a candid way of explaining women. Engineers always strive for perfection and defining everything with numbers -- sometimes, they have funny consequences.

Feast your eyes on this:

Women derived, Ravi Jay, definition of women

Parenting - Pencil and Eraser

Pencil : I'm sorry.

Ravi Jay, I'm sorry, Good parenting, Eraser, Pencil
Eraser : For what ? You didn't do anything wrong.

Pencil : I'm sorry cos you get hurt because of me. Whenever I made a mistake, you're always there to erase it. But as you make my mistakes vanish, you lose a part of yourself. You get smaller and smaller each time.

Eraser : That's true. But I don't really mind. You see, I was made to do this. I was made to help you whenever you do something wrong. Even though one day, I know I'll be gone and you'll replace me with a new one, I'm actually happy with my job. So please, stop worrying. I hate seeing you sad. :)
