Apple tracking iPhone users?

Do you think Apple is watching you? Do you worry when you see this message?

Apple's iPhone and iPad 3G appeared to collect information about their users' location, Apple, iPhone 3G, iPad 3G, collecting data, user location, google maps, maps on iPhone
Giving up your location
If you answer is 'YES', read on. If your answer is NO, you might want to read on ^.^

Well, Apple has denied that it is tracking iPhone users. In fact Apple claims to NOT track iPhone users. However, much to the dismay of a LOT of 'normal' users, a few security researchers claimed to have found a hidden file on the devices containing a record of everywhere they had been. Some users managed to extract the data and plot it on maps.

It looked like this:

This is a quote of what Apple said:
"The iPhone is not logging your location. Rather, it's maintaining a database of Wi-Fi hotspots and cell towers around your current location, some of which may be located more than one hundred miles away from your iPhone, to help your iPhone rapidly and accurately calculate its location when requested."

Naturally, Apple's explanation did not convince everyone, however.

Ross Anderson, professor of security engineering at Cambridge University, described it as "not plausible".
